Suction Couplings are coupled to suction hoses by making use of binding (with Copper/GI wire) or clamps, and enable the connection of hoses to fittings, pumps, strainers, etc having the alike threads. These couplings come with both Male and Female threaded parts, and have a saw-toothed tail portion, on which the pipe is fixed. The shape of these allows the hose to be slightly flexible, without enabling it to breakdown on itself under suction, as the standard, woven-jacket fire hose would. Suction Couplings are built to endure vacuum, rather than heat, water pressure and abrasion. They are, consequently, built differently from the normal fire hose and feature different end fittings.
